Tunisia: PDL Leader Abir Moussi Sentenced to 10 Years in Prison

On Friday, March 13, 2026, a Tunisian court sentenced the president of the Free Destourian Party (PDL), Abir Moussi, to a total of 10 years in prison. The primary sentence of 9 years was issued for “assault intended to change the state structure, inciting citizens to attack one another with weapons, and causing chaos on Tunisian territory.”

In addition to the main charge, the court sentenced her to 6 months for processing personal data without consent and another 6 months for obstructing the freedom of work, bringing the total to 10 years. In the same ruling, defendant Mariem Sassi received a one-year sentence (6 months for data processing and 6 months for obstructing work).
